Kukesi lies in the north-east inboard mountain province of republic of Albania. Kukes has a surface about 930 km² and a population about 83.000 citizens. In the district of Kukes dominants the mountainous relief and partly hilly. The average high less is 925m. The highest areas in Kukes are Gjallica (2486m) and Koritniku (2396m).

The mains rivers are: Luma; White Drin , Black Drin which linked up and together create the DRIN river which is the longest river in Albania . On this river  are built 3 hydro power stations.        The Kukes district has three ethnographically zones which are Gora, Luma and Malziu . The climate is Mediterranean and mountainous. The average temperature is 11.8^oC, the average temperature of the coldest months is 0.5  ^oC  

and the average temperature of the hottest months is 22 ^oC . The lowest temperature is -21 ^oC and the highest is 39^oC .The yearly quantity rainfalls is 946mm. Kukes has a richness of minerals like Copper, Nickel, Iron, Uranium etc. The agricultural lands are essentially mountain-brown. There are some subterranean sources at Ujmisht in Bushat
